CHUCK TAYLOR AND INDIANA BASKETBALL

In a variety of ways, Indiana remains the heart of basketball in the United States. Its history here has no shortage of iconic moments or people. There are many Hoosier natives who are famous for changing or contributing to the game, such as Oscar Robertson, John Wooden, and Larry Bird. There is one Hoosier who gave his life to the game, whose name virtually everyone in the United States knows. His fame extends far beyond the bounds of basketball. Few, however, know much about him. The man is Charles Hollis Taylor, better known as “Chuck” Taylor — the man behind the name on that famous shoe — the Converse All-Star. This exhibit explores:

The Game that Chuck Taylor helped to spread.
The Man who Chuck Taylor really was.
and The Shoe Chuck Taylor made famous.
