Our Collections

The William H. Smith Memorial Library has a broad spectrum of material documenting the history of Indiana from its early exploration and settlement to the present. Here is more information on the types of materials we collect and how to access them.

  • Manuscript and Visual Collections include personal papers, business records, oral histories, photographs, postcards, prints, posters, paintings, films and videotapes.
  • Printed Collections and Artifacts include published books, pamphlets, microfilm, maps, sheet music, printed ephemera and small artifacts.
  • Digital Image Collections include more than 38,000 digital images available online, with more added weekly. These images cover a variety of subjects as well as individual collections.
