Hoosier History Bowl
The 3rd Annual Hoosier History Bowl was Saturday, April 28, 2012. Seven teams competed in Division I and two teams played in Division II/III. First and second place teams in each division received trophies, medals and a club cash prize. River Birch Elementary in Avon, coached by Lowell Miller, won first place in Division I. Brandywine Elementary in Greenfield, coached by Cindy Willyard and David Robinson, took second place in Division I. Riverview Middle School in Huntington, coached by Les Hoffman, won first place in Division II/III. Switzerland County High School in Vevay, coached by Janet Hendricks, took second place in Division II/III. Congrats!
New this year was a round-robin tournament in the morning. Teams played each other in pool play, with the top scoring team advancing to the championship round. This allowed players to compete in at least two games.
The History Bowl Flash Mob was another new addition. Club members learned a choreographed dance before game day by watching instructional videos on the Indiana Junior Historical Society Facebook page. The signal to come to the stage was the flash mob song. Over 40 students danced to the song "Good Feelin'" by Flo Rida. To see a video of the flash mob, click here.
Clubs participating in the History Bowl were: Academy of Higher Learning from Ninevah, led by Melanie Stafford; Allisonville Elementary in Castleton, led by Sandra Brown; Brandywine Elementary in Greenfield, led by Cindy Willyard and David Robinson; Our Shepherd Lutheran School in Avon, led by Amy Hedges; River Birch Elementary in Avon, led by Lowell Miller; Riverview Middle School in Huntington, led by Les Hoffman; Sts. Joan of Arc and Patrick School in Kokomo, led by Susan Jones-Gilbert; Switzerland County High School in Vevay, led by Janet Hendricks; and Union Elementary School in Modoc, led by Erica Bishop.
