Local History Services offers workshops just for local history groups.
Here's our 2012 workshop schedule:
- Managing People, April 23, Greencastle. Explore the challenges of managing volunteers, paid staff and interns with three small local history organization leaders.
- Cemetery Preservation (Basic), May 18 and 19, Southport. Discover cemetery history and laws, as well as fundraising for and proper techniques of cemetery preservation.
- Building a Meaningful Collection, June 5, Lyles Station. Understand the value of and process for creating a Scope of Collections Statement.
- Kids and History, June 29, Crawfordsville. Harness the power of this great audience and volunteer base.
- Exhibit Fabrication, July 6, Indianapolis. Learn some basic techniques to create professional exhibit mounts and Plexiglas® covers.
- Polish Your Image, Aug. 6, Bloomington. Improve your marketing materials by learning to apply the principals of design.
- Charting Your Organization's Course, Aug. 15, Westchester. Understand not only the “how,” but the “why” of planning for nonprofits.
- Cemetery Preservation (Advanced), Aug. 24 and 25, Lawrence. Get your hands dirty with advanced cemetery restoration techniques.
- Special Events, Sept. 12, Indianapolis. Learn how to plan for and execute major events that attract funding and people to your organization.
- ADA and Accessibility for History Groups, Oct. 4, Marion. Develop a basic plan to become a more welcoming site for those with mobility, vision and hearing challenges.
