Reaching Out

IMLS Logo ColorThe Indiana Historical Society and the Hoosier Heritage Alliance received an Institute of Museum and Library Services Connecting to Collections implementation grant. Project activities included site-specific collections care and management training sessions and regional conferences on collections care. The collaborative developed and made available Deteriora and the Agents of Destruction (a graphic novel about collections care), the Endangered Heritage traveling exhibit, the Collections Advisor monthly email and a collections care awareness poster.

The project activities addressed the Hoosier Heritage Alliance’s specific recommendations and strategies developed during the planning process to achieve the following goals within Indiana’s heritage collecting organizations:

  1. Increase awareness of the importance of collections care
  2. Improve training opportunities in collections stewardship
  3. Increase the capacity of Indiana organizations to raise funds for preservation activities
