BIOGRAPHiCAL SKETCH

Green B. Fields was a residence of Vanderburg County, Indiana. He enlisted as a private on 11 August 1862 and was mustered into F Company, Indiana 4th Cavalry. It left the state at once for Kentucky. In January 1863 the regiment moved with General Rosecrans’ army for Tullahoma and Chattanooga, Tennessee, participating at Chickamauga.

In March 1864, it joined Sherman’s cavalry, and was engaged at Varnell’s Station, Burnt Church, and in all movements of that expedition. After the fall of Atlanta it marched into Tennessee and was engaged at Columbia in October. It was stationed near Louisville during November; was near Nashville in January 1865 and near Waterloo, Alabama in February.

It was engaged in Wilson’s raid through Alabama and participated at Plantersville and Selma in April. It then moved into Georgia, leaving for Nashville in May. Fields was mustered out on 29 June 1865 at Edgefield, Tennessee.
