NOTES:
Stephen N. Hardin (b. 1819) was born in Kentucky and moved to Hendricks County, Indiana in 1835 where he owned a farm and raised livestock near Plainfield. He was elected County Commissioner in 1868 and served one term in office.

The collection primarily consists of marriage licenses for Hendricks County (1838-1853) and Marion County (1846-1853) found in Hardin's possession. Other items in the collection include indentures (1866, 1876), Hardin's tax receipts (1841, 1848), a Military Land Warrant (1859), and other legal documents (1826-1884) for Marion, Hendricks, and Morgan counties.
