HISTORICAL SKETCH

William J. Kennedy (d. 1878) was born in Ohio, married Margary Curry, and practiced medicine and taught school in Meigs County. In 1857 he and his family moved to Center Point, Clay County, Indiana where he continued to teach school and practice medicine. After teaching two terms in education, Kennedy went into the general merchandise business. His son, John L. Kennedy, (b. 1849) was also born in Ohio, moved with his parents to Indiana, and studied medicine in Louisville, Kentucky, in the winter of 1875-1876 but he returned when his father became ill. After his father's death on February 2, 1878, he settled the estate by closing the business and opened a drug business in Center Point in 1880. He married Sarah L. Bridewell on September 12, 1878.
