SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of a 7 page letter written in a 2" x 3.25" 20 page booklet with a faded red fabric cover from an unknown soldier in Company "F" of the 7th Indiana Regiment. The letter is written from Laurel Hill, Virginia, on 19 July 1861 to "My Little Dears! Frieda & Eddie!!" In the letter the soldier recounts the regiment's military activities and the sufferings of the civilians (especially children) he saw along the way. He also relates that the booklet in which he is writing was found along the road amidst numerous other articles left by the "secesh army." The letter was not signed and apparently never finished.
