NOTES:
The James H. Emmet Post #6 of the Grand Army of the Republic was formed in Wabash, Indiana, on 18 June 1883, and named for the first Wabash County soldier killed in the Civil War. Emmet, a private in Company H of the 8th Indiana Regiment, died at Rich Mountain, Virginia on 11 July 1861. There were fifty-five charter members of the post with A. F. Spaulding serving as the first commander.

The collection contains the descriptive book of James H. Emmet Post No. 6 of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), Wabash, Indiana, 1883-1942. Included are names of members, age when joined the post, birthplace, residence, and occupation. Other information contained in the book pertains to members' military service such as regiment and company, date of entry into service and final discharge, length of service and cause of discharge. Also included are records of when members were mustered into the Emmet Post and in most instances when and where they died.
