This collection consists of one item, a letter dated 21 June 1859, written by Emily J. Baird, of Cloverdale, Putnam County, Indiana, to "Dear Brother," William J. Koons, of Bethel, Bath County, Kentucky. The letter describes in some detail both the writer's garden and the operation of the whole farm. Though the writer is cooking for twenty-three hands, she found time to have "a heap of fun" when a friend visited. She finds Indiana people less "biggeted" than in Kentucky. There have been some weddings locally, "Dutch and Irish marrying together." Cousin Andy, though his niece has married an Irishman, is "fine as Friday."
