This collection consists of eight letters, one dated 1836 and the rest from 1864 to 1871, to and from members of the Green family. All are written with primitive form and spelling, and neither locations nor relationships are clear. (One letter seems to be written both to and by the same person.) Family members mentioned more than once are Seth Green, Eli Green, and Rebecca Green. The name Conner also seems to be related. Indiana locations mentioned include Bridgeport and Coatesville in Hendricks County, Joliet(ville) in Hamilton County, Hopewell in Johnson County, and Winchester in Randolph County.
The letters generally contain routine family news: marriages, sickness, and death. A letter of 10 January 1865 asks what has become of Orpha P.; when last heard of she was "at a sporting house." A letter of 2 March 1866 issues invitations to a quilting, and goes on to describe damage done by a recent hurricane, which destroyed a maple sugar camp and also "blowed all the wool off the backs" of some sheep that were lying by a stump.
