The Tea Creek Baptist Church was located in Jennings County two miles east of Lovett on the upper reaches of Tea Creek, a tributary of the Muscatatuck River. The church was organized in December 1872; it was still very active in 1886; a church building on the site is still indicated on a county map published in 1989.

This collection consists of a small notebook recording meetings of the Tea Creek Baptist Church held between 1872 and 1886. The book begins with articles of faith and rules of decorum. Meetings were usually held monthly on Saturdays; they began with prayer and sermon, conducted by the pastor or an elder. Business consisted of practical matters such as electing delegates or re-roofing part of the church building, or disciplinary matters such as card-playing or a dispute between a male parishioner and two female members. Minutes are carefully written but with highly individualistic spelling.
