BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

J. G. Furrow had been living in Franklin [Indiana?] in 1857 and in that year was considering moving to Terre Haute or to Paris, Illinois. He does not seem to be related to the

J. B. Furrow whose grocery store at Fourth and Main in Terre Haute burned in April 1854, or to the A. C. Furrow who later ran a grocery store there at Fourth and Wabash. The name does not appear in other Vigo County and Terre Haute sources.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

This collection consists of one letter, written by J. G. Furrow in 1857 from Terre Haute to his wife Amelia. The couple has been living in Franklin, and is considering a move to Terre Haute or Paris, Illinois. The letter illustrates the mobility of families in the mid-nineteenth century.
