The Social Sewing Society of Greene County(?) was formed by the ladies of Green in 1851. The organization's purpose was the "aiding of the destitute releiving (sic.) of the distressed extending assistance and sympathy to unfortunate and promoting approved objects of benevolence and hoping hereby to create a general feeling of unity and mutual kindness throughout our community and township." The organization was apparently affiliated with the Methodist Epsicopal Church.

The volume contains the organization's constitution, the names of members, and the regulations as well as the meeting minutes from August, 1851 to September, 1862. Reports contain location of the meeting, the society's activities, and other agenda items. There are also reports of items of clothing made and in the process of being made for the destitute of the area. The volume also contains a list of donations received.
