BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Leah Beverly Gunderson (Mrs. Morton Gunderson) received a B.S. degree in 1957 from Valparaiso University in Physical Education, Health and Recreation. She earned graduate degrees from Indiana University in Parks and Recreation (1964) and School Administration (1986). Her master's thesis was on An Analysis of Leisure Time of Selective Aged Residents of Marshall County, IN. She taught, mainly courses in physical education, in Merrillville, Plymouth, Culver, and Lowell, Indiana. Through the years she was active in many organizations dealing with physical education, recreation, and sport.

In 1964-1965, when she was doing research on aging, Mrs. Gunderson organized and served as recreational director of a senior citizens group in Plymouth, Indiana, connected with Calvary Lutheran Church. Activities included trips to Dunes State Park, a tulip festival, and the Ice Capades; talks about retirement, doll and toy repair, and legal problems; and various theme entertainments, including a mock hillbilly wedding.
