HISTORICAL SKETCH

Charity Addams Barlow (fl. 1810s and 1820s) apparently was from Plattsburgh, New York, and moved with her husband to Prince Town (Princeton), Gibson County, Indiana by October, 1820. Prior to that time they had been living in Mt. Carmel, Illinois

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The letter was written by Charity Barlow in Prince Town (Princeton), Indiana to her parents, Major and Mrs. John Addams in Plattsburgh, New York, 28 October 1820. Barlow goes into great detail about the diseases that plagued the state at this time. She and her family had fled their home in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. The health conditions in New Harmony and Vincennes are also mentioned, New Harmony being healthy and Vincennes being "sickly".
