HISTORICAL SKETCH

William Scudder Jr. was born January 20, 1832 in Cincinnati, Ohio. In December 1855, Scudder moved with his family to Wayne Township, Indianapolis, where he married Rebecca Brown on December 16, 1860. Scudder taught school in Wayne Township and was driving a street car in Cincinnati in 1868.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection, consisting of one folder, contains two diaries and transcripts. The first, dated 1857, was written while Scudder lived in Wayne Township, Indianapolis, where he taught school. The second diary, dated 1868, was written while Scudder was living in Indianapolis and Cincinnati. Both record daily activities, weather conditions, and expenses.
