SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection contains twenty-nine cartes de visite photographs, and seven tintypes of relatives and friends of Flavius Josephus Bellamy. Two cartes de visite are of Bellamy, but the subjects of most of the photographs are unidentified. The unidentified male subjects in the cartes de visite resemble Bellamy, and may be his brothers John, Edward, and Jesse L. One subject, posing in an army uniform, may be Bellamy. Subjects identified include Charles Lee, who served as a lieutenant with Bellamy in the Forty-fifth Infantry, Charles R. Clark, also of the Forty-fifth regiment, Christine Hart Bellamy, and Jennie Snyder Bellamy. An annotation on an envelope within the collection states that Jennie Snyder Bellamy was a singer. Two unidentified tintypes may be portraits of Jennie Snyder Bellamy.

A previous processor removed the items in this collection from an album donated by Ione Bellamy Beal Harkness and placed them in four envelopes. The arrangement of the items into envelopes may reflect original groupings of photographs in the album. For this reason, the items are arranged in four folders, and the contents reflect the composition of the envelopes.
