HISTORICAL SKETCH

 Information regarding James Davis not found.

 T. Henry Davis, born on September 29, 1836, was a doctor in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana. A twenty four year member of the State Board of Health, Davis sponsored a number of laws having to do with hygiene and sanitation. In Richmond, he led the movement to establish a waterworks system and helped acquire Glen Miller Park for municipal use. He died on March 10, 1932.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

 The collection consists of the commission papers of James Davis, signed by Abraham Lincoln and Edwin M. Stanton and dated March 10, 1863. Davis was commissioned Commissary of Substance of Columbus with the rank of Captain. Also included is a newspaper photograph of Doctor T. Henry Davis (1836-1932). How or if the two Davises were related is not determined.
