HISTORICAL SKETCH

The Northern Indiana Historical Society applied for and received an Indiana Heritage Research Grant (IHRG) from the Indiana Humanities Council and the Indiana Historical Society. The purpose of the grant was to study the former village of Warwick and surrounding farmsteads in Olive Township of St. Joseph County, Indiana. Copies of all project materials, as well as oral history audio tapes and slide images, are housed at the archives of the Northern Indiana Historical Society.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

"Warwick: A History of the Midwestern Rural Village" was completed as part of an Indiana Heritage Research Grant (#95-3014) awarded to the Northern Indiana Historical Society in 1995. This collection consists of an abstract for the project, oral history typescripts, interview questions, summaries, material concerning presentations on the project, and photocopies of newspaper articles.

There are nine oral history interview typescripts, as well as summaries of telephone interviews. The interviews took place between May 1995 and February 1996. The interviewees discuss family histories, Warwick, the Chicago Trail (Chicago Road), and the John Reynolds farmstead. They include: Norin Cleon Bates, Tony Bladecki, Richard Clendenon, Carmen Foster, Ann Fox, Ruth James, John Janakowski, Mary Margaret Marker, Nell Morehouse, Fred Paine, Lowell Proud, Frances Saunders, Bruce Shand, Kathy Shand, Ivan Truyeart, Eugene Vanwanzeele, Dana Walls, and Susan (Fox) Walls.

Present are summaries on Warwick, the Terre Coupee Prairie, the Chicago Road, the St. Joseph, South Bend & Southern Railroad, and the John Reynolds farmstead. Materials relating to two presentations on the project are also included. Photocopies of newspaper articles complete the collection.
