NOTES:
Noah Selmon Weddle (1838-1923) was born in Medora, Jackson County, Indiana. In June, 1861, he enlisted in the Company G of the 17th Indiana Regiment, which became part of Wilder's "Lightning Brigade" seeing action at Shiloh, Corinth (Mississippi), Chattagnooga, and Chickamauga. Weddle attained the rank of sergeant before his and the unit's three years of service terminated in January, 1864. Following his discharge from the 17th Indiana, Weddle re-enlisted as a lieutenant in Company D of the 137th Indiana. Weddle served five months in the 137th and was then assigned to Company K of the 140th Indiana. Weddle was mustered out of the 140th in July, 1865, and returned to his home in Medora.
Noah Weddle married sixteen year old Cordelia Ann Brown in November, 1865. The two had met at a Veterans Furlough in February, 1863. The couple produced four children. Weddle returned to his pre-war occupation of farmer and served as Justice of the Peace for Carr Township, Jackson County, from 1878-1883. In April, 1883, Weddle and his family moved to Kansas where he apparently continued to farm, living first in the town of McPherson and then moving to Lindsborg in 1885. Weddle remained in Lindsborg until his death in 1923.
