Joline Moore Ohmart graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas with a degree in dramatics. After a four year stint as continuity editor for a Dallas Texas radio station, she moved to Indianapolis where she worked as research assistant in the Federal Home Loan Bank. During the 1970's, Ohmart was active in various women's rights organizations such as the National Organization for Women (NOW) and the Women's Equity Action League (WEAL). She served as chairman of the Greater Indianapolis Women's Political Caucus Speaker's Bureau and devoted much energy to fighting for the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment.

The collection, consisting of three manuscript boxes, is arranged by subject. The first box contains Ohmart's correspondence to national and state politicians on the necessity of an Equal Rights Amendment. Papers, correspondence, and information pamplets from the National Organization for Women (NOW), the National Women's Political Caucus (NWPC), the Greater Indianapolis Women's Political Caucus (GIWPC), the Women's Equity Action League (WEAL), and Hoosiers for the Equal Rights Amendment (HERA), are included.
The second box consists of information pamplets about various programs, workshops, and symposiums regarding the Equal Rights Amendment and Equal Employment. Two folders deal with the Fair Labor Standards Act (1972) and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (1976). The final box is comprised of mailing and reading lists as well as newspaper and article clippings regarding women's rights. Miscellaneous papers comprise the last five folders.
