NOTES: |
This collection consists of the final report for a project undertaken as part of Indiana Heritage Research Grant #95-3002. The grantee was the Oral History Research Center, Indiana University, Memorial Hall West, Room 401, Bloomington, IN 47405. |
The Oral History Research Center, located at the Indiana University-Bloomington Campus, received an Indiana Heritage Research Grant (IHRG) from the Indiana Humanities Council and the Indiana Historical Society. The purpose of the grant was to document and evaluate the role of county historical societies as preservers of Indiana's history and cultural heritage. County historical societies included in this project were located in the following counties: Jefferson, Johnson, La Porte, Monroe, Noble, Randolph, Tippecanoe, Vigo, and Wells. The project produced eleven transcribed, edited and indexed interviews with fourteen society members, as well as slides of exhibits at each historical society. These materials are available at the Indiana Historical Society, the Indiana Humanities Council, the Oral History Research Center, and the Lilly Library (located on the Indiana University-Bloomington campus).
"Preservers of the Past: Indiana's County Historical Societies" was completed as part of an Indiana Heritage Research Grant (#95-3002) awarded to the Oral History Research Center, located at the Indiana University-Bloomington campus, in 1995. This collection consists of an abstract for the project, interviews with members of the participating historical societies, a copy of the final report for the project, and color slides taken at the societies.
Interview topics include each member's life and the society's history and activities. The interviews were originally arranged alphabetically according to county; this order has been maintained. Each participating society is represented in the collection of slides.
