Dr. J.A. Newton was an oculist in Boonville, Warrick County, Indiana from the 1860s through the 1880s.

The volume contains Dr. Newton's journal and account book listing patient's name, geographic location, disease, and charges, 1864-1881. Patients were from southern Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois.
