The collection consists of twenty letters. Fifteen of these are written by Henry Shouldise, while the remaining five are from his family. Henry’s letters are written to either his mother, his brother William, or his sister Rebecca. Most concern his state of health and when he might be discharged. He often sent money with these letters and advised his family on what they might send him.
The five from his family deal mostly with financial and legal concerns, apparently dealing with the pension due the Shouldises from Henry’s service.
