BIOGRAPHiCAL SKETCH

S (Samuel) F. M. Lamb was from Switzerland County, Indiana.  He enlisted in the 45th Indiana Regiment (3rd Cavalry-Right Wing) in August 1861 and was a corporal in Company C serving with Hooker's Division in Maryland as part of the Army of the Potomac.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The item in this collection is a three-page letter from S.F.M. Lamb at Headquarters, Lower Potomac (Maryland), Hooker's Division, to his niece, Amerries C. Lamb, 1 January 1862.  Lamb describes camp life and how food is prepared in the army. He also relays his thanks to her father for the knife he sent and gives his regards to their family.
