SCOPE AND CONTENT

This collection consists of a letter addressed to "Friend Naylor" from James L. Cathcart of Westville, LaPorte County, Indiana, dated 4 August 1869. Naylor may have lived in Vigo County, since the letter was found in a Vigo County ledger.

Cathcart mentions a recent solar eclipse which caused chickens to go to roost, and discourses upon the effect of rainy weather upon farming. He mentions two young ladies of the Allen family, and notes that Westville now has a brass band and is about to have a string band.
