Jefferson Cooperider was born in Jefferson County, Indiana in 1839 to George Cooperider and Fanny Troutman. He enlisted on 12 September 1861 as a private in Company A, 6th Regiment Indiana Infantry and served in the Civil War until 22 September 1864.
On 2 February 1868 Cooperider married Harriet Ellen Friedley. The couple had one daughter, Frankie, born 15 December 1868. In 1870 Cooperider was practicing medicine in Taylorsville, Bartholomew County, Indiana. The 1900 census indicates the family had moved to Madison Township, Jefferson County, Indiana, where Cooperider continued to practice medicine.
Cooperider died in 1911 and was buried in Springdale Cemetery in Jefferson County.
