Brown County State Park, comprising more than 15,000 acres, is the largest state park in Indiana. The Department of Natural Resources built Abe Martin Lodge there in 1932 on Kin Hubbard Ridge, naming the accompanying cottages after his principle characters.
Clifty Falls State Park sits on a bluff overlooking the Ohio River and downtown Madison, Indiana. The original Clifty Inn first opened its doors to guests in August of 1924, and has undergone renovations in the years since.
Highland Golf and Country Club opened in 1908 on West 30th Street in Indianapolis (now the site of Coffin Municipal Golf Course), and moved to West 52nd Street in the mid-1920s.
Indiana Oxygen Company’s administration building was built in Indianapolis in 1930. It featured carved limestone gas cylinders atop brick pilasters, an entrance with Gothic details, a vestibule with leaded glass and wood paneling, a wood-paneled president’s office with coffered ceiling, and carved plaster figures. The Brant family owned the company and had the building listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In 1992, Indiana Oxygen sold the building to Eli Lilly and Company whose campus surrounded the structure. Lilly donated the building to the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana on the condition that the building be relocated. It was moved to the corner of East Street and Fletcher Avenue. In 1998 it was bought by Jeff Dunaway who opened his restaurant, Dunaway’s Palazzo Ossigeno, in the building.
McCormick’s Creek State Park was established in 1916 as Indiana’s first state park. This 1,924-acre park is located along the White River near Spencer in Owen County, 14 miles northwest of Bloomington. The bath house there was built in 1929.
Pokagon State Park was constructed in 1926. At that time, the park consisted of 707 acres and was the third largest park in the state. The park’s hotel, named the Potawatomi Inn, was completed in 1928.
Turkey Run State Park is Indiana’s second oldest state park. The first parcel of the park’s 2,382 acres was purchased during Indiana’s centennial in 1916 when the state park system was first established. It is located along State Road 47 southwest of Crawfordsville. The Turkey Run Inn was built in 1919, and has undergone additions and other modifications over the years.

This collection consists of twenty-six black-and-white 8”x10” photographs of structures designed by the Indianapolis architectural firm of Bishop, Knowlton and Carson. The photographs were taken in the 1920s and 1930s of structures built from around 1919 to the 1930s. All of the photographs are of buildings in Indiana, except for those of the Baltimore Post Office in Maryland. Many of the photographs are of structures located in Indiana’s various state parks, and include hotels, cabins, and a bath house. Two Indianapolis buildings are represented: the Highland Golf and Country Club, and the Indiana Oxygen Company. Some of the unidentified structures appear to be pavilions and a dining hall. There are photographs of building exteriors and interiors.
The collection is arranged into nine series: Baltimore Post Office, Brown County State Park, Clifty Falls State Park, Highland Golf and Country Club, Indiana Oxygen Company, McCormick’s Creek State Park, Pokagon State Park, Turkey Run State Park, and Unidentified Structures.
