BIOGRAPHiCAL SKETCH

John Brenner, Jr., and Aluhah Gertrude Dobbins worked as stenographers for various firms in Indianapolis, Indiana, from ca. 1906 to the late 1930s. It is not known if these individuals were friends.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection contains 122 mechanically reproduced postcards, and fifty-nine photographic postcards depicting Indiana scenes from ca. 1906 to the 1970s. The postcards may have been assembled by Mrs. Bertram Teeple into a personal collection, as the annotation “return to Mrs. Bertram Teeple, 5870 Primrose” appears on two postcards. No postcards are addressed to Mrs. Teeple, but seventy-eight items contain correspondence mailed to John Brenner, Jr., of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Aluhah Gertrude Dobbins of Odon and Indianapolis, Indiana. Six items were addressed to other individuals.

The processor divided the collection into five series to reflect the provenance of portions of the collection. Series One includes forty-one postcards sent to John Brenner Jr., twenty-eight of which are Indiana courthouses. Series Two has thirty-seven postcards addressed to Aluhah Gertrude Dobbins. These came from siblings and friends from Odom, Indiana. The postcards discuss the health of relatives, travel arrangements, and schooling. Series Three contains ninety-eight unused postcards and includes colored postcards from ca. 1970. Series Four has six items addressed to various individuals and includes scenes from Indianapolis, Martinsville, and Bloomington, Indiana. Series Five contains twelve oversized unused postcards ca. 1970 and one older souvenir fold-out postcard.
