NOTES: |
|
The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the state of Indiana assists with projects to preserve historic sites throughout the state. In 1963 the organization sent a form letter to each of the ninety-two County Clerks asking for information on their respective courthouse. Some responded and others sent the requests on to local historical societies for answers. The completed forms were returned and the essays in this collection were written with information from those responses.

The collection contains an unpublished typed history titled Indiana Courthouses. The essays are for the courthouses for the counties of Harrison, Marion, Wayne, Ripley, Switzerland, Jefferson, Decatur, Orange, and Posey and are accompanied by copy photographs. The essays were researched and written by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Indiana.
Series 1 Questionnaires and Research Notes: Included here are the typed questionnaires sent by Mrs. Robert S. (Wolcott) Telfer of Bloomington, Indiana under the auspices of The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Indiana. Besides the questionnaires there are loose notes on the courthouses.
Series 2 Hoosier Courthouses: contains the typed script, copy photographs, negatives, and binder that the materials were originally stored in.
The photographs appear to be copy prints from different unknown sources. Each courthouse photograph is identified in handwriting on the verso. The typed essays and photographs were originally stored in a plastic binder. These papers and photographs have been removed and stored separately for preservation purposes. The binder is stored in the manuscript box.
