BIOGRAPHiCAL SKETCH

Edward J. Vadas of Cedar Lake, Indiana created this collection with the intention of writing a book on Indiana Courthouses entitled Photographic Survey on the County Courthouses in Indiana. Mr. Vadas wrote to county historical societies and libraries in 1978 requesting information on the courthouses. His book was never published but his research materials and photographs are preserved in this collection.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection was created by Edward J. Vadas during his research for a book on Indiana courthouses. The materials include correspondence, research notes, and photographs made by him. 

Series 1: Includes correspondence from historical societies and libraries in response to his inquiry for information. There are also printed and photocopied materials on the courthouses.

Series 2: Contains 102 black-and-white photographs of courthouses taken by Vadas in 1977. Each photograph is identified on the front and back with the city and county name. Some of the images also identify the year the courthouse was built, the style of architecture, and architect.
