NOTES: |
|
William H. Sharpe was born ca. 1841 in Indiana. The 1880 census indicates he was a farmer, living in Washington Township, Marion County, Indiana (likely near Broad Ripple). He married a woman named Jennie, and their daughter Nevada was born ca. 1868. William’s mother, Mary, was born in Maine and lived with William, Jennie, and Nevada in 1880.

Information in the collection.
“Ancestry Library Edition.” Available online at: http://www.ancestrylibrary.com
The collection consists of a ledger kept by William H. Sharpe. The ledger includes payments and pricing for hay, wheat, oats, beer, shingles, tobacco, monthly dues, as well as jobs performed such as threshing clover, chopping wood, working on the gravel road, and ditching. Loose items removed consist primarily of a few receipts.
There are a few articles of agreement written in the ledger and on loose papers removed from the ledger. One agreement between William H. Sharpe and Charles Wildrick allows the clearing of timber and drilling of oil and gas wells on a particular piece of land in Washington Township.
Names of men frequently paid for labor include William H. Earl, Henry Groves, James Bear, Cal Dunkin, William Rodocker, Jacob Rodocker, Ben Williams, Bain Nevius, and Bob Wildrick.
