NOTES: |
|
Thorntown is located in Sugar Creek Township, Boone County, Indiana. The town was established on land purchased by Cornelius Westfall in 1829. Westfall plotted the town in April 1830.
The ledger in the collection is inscribed with the name William Shannon. The 1860 census shows a William Shannon (b. ca. 1807) living in Thorntown; however, his stated occupation is that of gunsmith. It is not known whether this same William Shannon was also a merchant or owned the ledger in the collection.
