BIOGRAPHiCAL SKETCH

Henry Pond was born in 1862 in Franklin County, Indiana.  His father was William Henry Pond, who relocated the family to Marion Township, Shelby County, Indiana, in 1863.  Pond’s father was a successful farmer in the area.

As an adult, Pond married Etta Canady and they had six children.  Pond remained in Shelby County, Indiana, his entire life, working the land as his father had.  Henry Pond died ca. 1942.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of thirty-seven diaries, two New Testament Bibles, and one account book, all belonging to Henry Pond.  The diaries and the account book detail the season-to-season functions of the Pond family farm and agricultural life in Shelby County from around 1879 to 1942.
