Ball grew up in Cedar Lake (Lake County), Indiana; was a student at Franklin College, Franklin (Johnson County), 184851, and the Newton Theological Seminary, West Newton, Mass. (186063); a Baptist minister in Lake County, Indiana (18551913); founder of the Crown Point Institute (1865); and author of three histories of Lake County.
The papers include correspondence from family and friends in West Springfield, Mass. (1837), Valparaiso, Porter County (1847), and from friends attending school at North Wilbraham Academy, Mass., LaPorte University, LaPorte County, Ind., and Wabash College Montgomery County, Ind. (184648); Balls diary (183947); personal financial documents (1850s60s); papers relating to the Cedar Lake Lyceum, Lake County; and papers relating to Franklin College and the Newton Theological Seminary.
