O’Hara was commissary at the general hospital at Carlisle, Pa. (1779-80) and assistant quartermaster under Gen. Nathaniel Greene (1780-83) during the Revolutionary War; quartermaster of the U.S. Army (1792-96); government contractor (1796-1802); and founder of glass works in Pittsburgh, Pa. (1800).
The collection consists of O’Hara’s notebook of expenditures at Carlisle, Pa., and with General Greene’s army (1779-83); his orderly books containing copies of military orders issued from Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and the Ohio country (1792-93); and his letter book containing copies of letters received regarding military operations and supplies for the army in the West (1792-94), and including copies of letters to him from Isaac Craig, Alexander Hamilton, Samuel Hodgdon, Henry Knox, Anthony Wayne, and James Wilkinson.
