1 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 26, 2008, local spinner and weaver
Pam Kinnaman will treat visitors to the History Center

From 7 to 9 p.m. on Jan. 8,
2008, Scott Keller of Blackard and Geiger, Ltd. will
offer informal appraisals of antiques brought in by the
public. The cost is $10 per two items or $6 for one
item. Coins, stamps and jewelry will not be appraised.
All proceeds benefit the Monroe County Historical
Society.
Jon Kay of Traditional Arts
Indiana will make a presentation about the traditions,
communities, aesthetics and creative processes employed
by instrument builders in Indiana at 7 p.m. on Jan. 17,
2008. Indiana is internationally recognized as a center
of instrument manufacturing, but the state's tradition
of independent instrument builders is less well known.
Mr. Kay will help raise awareness of these creative
instrument builders.
Visitors to the History Center
will receive a free sundae with the price of museum
admission from 1 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 26, 2008. Design your
own sundae with lots of chocolate toppings. Learn the
history of ice cream making, and enjoy old-time music.
Also enjoy the 1880s living history interpretation in
the museum's log cabin and one-room school.

Association of
Midwest Museums Releases Salary
Survey The Association of
Midwest Museums (AMM) has released the 2007
Salary Survey Report. Earlier this year, AMM
conducted a salary survey of museums around the
midwest. The survey is the most comprehensive
survey of museum salaries in the Midwest and is an
excellent resource for museums working to develop
a competitive wage package and museum
professionals who are seeking employment or trying
to negotiate a salary adjustment. This is the
first salary survey that AMM has conducted since
2002. AMM has made a commitment to conduct the
survey for five successive years in order to
establish a baseline for museum salaries and track
trends in the industry.
Survey reports are
available for purchase for $25 for AMM members and
$50 for non-members. An order form is available on
the AMM Web site at www.midwest
museums.org. For
additional information, contact the AMM office at
(314) 746-4557 or at midwestmuseums@aol.org.
