In the late 1960s Union Terminal’s concourse, which extended over the tracks and had stairs and ramps for arriving and departing passengers, became a science museum. By the early 1970s the museum was gone and the concourse was closed off. A single platform at the east end on the concourse handled the two remaining trains serving the terminal. The concourse would later be demolished for expansion of a railroad freight yard, but its fourteen mosaic murals, depicting Cincinnati’s industries, were preserved and moved to the city’s airport.
