The former Steam Concourse of Cleveland Union Terminal survives but in a much
altered form. The original segmental-arched ceiling and skylight were removed
as part of the Tower City Center project and were replaced with this barrel-vaulted
concourse that features abundant natural light and a large fountain. Though the
space bears little resemblance to the original concourse, features such as original
marble flooring and classical columns have been retained. The old Union Terminal
remains the center of rail transportation in Cleveland, even though that currently
consists only of transit lines. (Jeffrey T. Darbee)
