As time passed and train service dwindled, fewer and fewer people visited Columbus Union Station. By the time of Amtrak in 1971, only two trains a day called at the depot, scheduled for the middle of the night. The arcade on High Street stood largely abandoned except for a cigar store in its south end. Lack of maintenance led to increasing deterioration. (Jeffrey T. Darbee)
