German artist Winold Reiss, who had come to the United States and was well known for his paintings of Native Americans, had the commission to create the terminal’s murals. While all of the murals were well executed, Reiss’s depictions of native people were especially striking. In this view, note the multiple colors in the mosaic tiles Reiss employed to create the effect of folds and shadows in clothing. (Jeffrey T. Darbee)
