The Steam Concourse of Cleveland Union Terminal, from which passengers descended
stairways to waiting intercity trains, was the largest single space in the terminal.
Like the rest of the facility, it was entirely below street level, and during
the day a large skylight flooded the concourse with natural light. Classical fluted
columns flanked the four sides of the concourse. The last intercity train that
served the terminal was a commuter run to and from Youngstown that ceased operation
in 1977. (Jeffrey T. Darbee)
