Planners of Cincinnati Union Terminal took advantage of high ground east of Mill
Creek to place the new terminal well above the flood level of the Ohio River,
a location that was also ideal for connecting to the Queen City’s principal
rail routes. The site was also more than a mile from downtown Cincinnati, placing
the terminal in a west-side industrial area. This view from the downtown Carew
Tower shows Union Terminal sitting in splendid isolation. (Jeffrey T. Darbee)
