Opened late in 1851, this barnlike structure served as Columbus’s union depot for
more than two decades. This view dates from around 1870 and looks northeast from
the corner of High and Naghten streets in the far north end of the city. Note the maze
of tracks crossing High Street, a problem that only became worse as more rail lines
reached the capital city. Horsecar service at this time was only a few years old.
