Hoosier
holidays
For some Hoosiers, the holidays mean looking forward to
a White Christmas, complete with snowball fights, sledding and snowman-building.
For others it’s a time of family and fellowship or spreading goodwill
by baking all day making sweet treats for neighbors, coworkers and friends.
Regardless of whether you celebrate Kwanzaa, light a menorah or write
letters to Santa, the Indiana History Center’s Holidays in the
Heartland exhibit and holiday activities offer something for everyone.
Playing in the snow, Santa Claus and holiday cooking images will adorn
the walls of Eli Lilly Hall, Winterfest activities feature crafts, storytelling,
music and games, and Las Posadas celebrates a Mexican holiday tradition
mixing hospitality and religion.
Make a visit to the Indiana History Center a new holiday tradition. Take
a family picture in the A Christmas Story vignette, complete
with the leg lamp or watch the film in the Cole Porter Room.

Holidays
in the Heartland
Nov. 17 through Dec. 30
Free
Christmas
trees, traditional holiday decorations, photo albums and A Christmas
Story are all part of the annual Holidays in the Heartland exhibit,
filling Eli Lilly Hall, the Lacy Gallery and the Theater and Lilly
Hall mezzanines. New this year, though, are vignettes and collections
featuring images of people playing outdoors in the snow, Santas,
Christmas trees and holiday cooking and baking.
IHS Collections
& Library provide rich resources to create the scenes throughout
the History Center. Jean Shepherd’s movie A Christmas
Story provides fodder for a vignette and photo op that many
visitors use as the background for holiday cards. |
