INDIANA HISTORY TRAIN :: history cam | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The History Train in Indianapolis, IN More than 2500 enjoyed the debut of the Indiana History Train at the Indiana Rail Road Company. Kids in attendance told us they learned a lot and the train was “cool.” The weather was a little cold on Saturday but turned into a great day, as did Sunday. The documentary previewed in the “Depot” tent was also a big hit as was the Abraham Lincoln presenter! All in all, the first stop of the train was a great success and we look forward to many more just the same.
The History Train in Columbus, Indiana They love their history and trains in Columbus! Thousands came out to the History Train there, Oct. 5-6, at the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds. In addition, the Bartholomew County Historical Society enjoyed a private evening reception at the train. The three bright red exhibit cars and the Indiana Rail Road locomotive could be seen hundreds of yards down Hwy. 11 and served to attract folks from throughout the area!
The History Train in Louisville, Kentucky The Indiana History Train rolled across the Ohio River and into the historic Union Station in Louisville, attracting much attention as it chugged along. Curiosity seekers, history enthusiasts and train fans stopped by to tour the exhibit and see what all the excitement was about. President Lincoln and a Union soldier greeted visitors to the station. The Kentucky Historical Society was there to welcome us as well!
The History Train in Evansville, Indiana Early rains and gusty winds did not prevent more than 2500 residents of southwestern Indiana from touring the Indiana History Train October 15-17 in Evansville. Sunday drew the largest crowd as the winds finally died down and the sun came out. Adults, grandparents with their grandchildren and families of all ages climbed the ramp leading to the 1809 car -- the first car you enter, and numbered for the year Lincoln was born. Next, it's off to Bloomfield, where hundreds of school children from throughout the area are scheduled to tour on Tuesday and Wednesday!
The History Train in Bloomfield, Indiana The History Train received a huge and warm welcome in Bloomfield, with almost 2000 visitors traveling through the train Oct. 19-20. Hundreds of school children, first through high school, toured the exhibit during two beautiful days of weather. Although the train was tucked away a bit, behind the volunteer first station and the Cinergy/PSI building, people still managed to find the big red locomotive and were so excited to learn more about Abraham Lincoln.
The History Train in Bloomington, Indiana The final two days of the Indiana History Train 2004 trek were in Bloomington, where members and residents poured out to visit the exhibit on Friday, and where rain poured in on Saturday! Despite the monsoon-like weather on Saturday, more than 1600 visitors toured the train. In all the cities, but especially in Bloomington, we enjoyed watching grandparents, parents and grandchildren touring the exhibit together, and discussing new-found facts about Lincoln and his impact on America. It was a delightful way to end our twenty days on the road!
