T.C. Steele captured the essence of the beauty of Indiana through his paintings. Step back in time with Lou Ann Homan as she shares the story of the life and loves of this extraordinary man who chose to live by his mantra, “Every morning I take off my hat to the beauty of the world.”

This activity is a signature project of the Indiana Bicentennial Commission, is made possible, in part, with support from the Indiana Arts Commission. In celebration of the Bicentennial, the Indiana Historical Society mounted an exhibit on T.C. Steele and published the 50th Anniversary Edition of its book, House of the Singing Winds: The Life and Work of T.C. Steele. To add another layer to the Bicentennial celebration, Storytelling Arts of Indiana and the Indiana Historical Society commissioned Lou Ann Homan to develop a story based on T.C. Steele. This story premiered April 29, 2016 at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center.

Funding from the Bicentennial Commission and the Indiana Arts Commission makes it possible to tell this story around the state. The final storytelling event is Oct. 13 at the Evansville Museum of Arts and Science.
