HAPPY BIRTHDAY, INDIANA!
We're going to party like it's 1816! Celebrate Indiana’s 200th birthday at the History Center with tons of free birthday activities, crafts and hands-on programs – and a special gift for the 200th person who walks through the door.
See all the Indiana Bicentennial Minute spots all day long. These are fascinating stories from our state's past narrated by Jane Pauley.
At 12:15 and 2:30 p.m., enjoy the IndyFringe show Harrison! The Musical – an improv, hip-hop musical about Indiana's founding fathers. Afterwards, join the actors and History Center staff to find out more about the history behind the hip-hop.
Along with the Indiana Repertory Theatre, we're presenting Finding Home at 3:45 p.m., featuring songs by Hoosier singer-songwriter Tim Grimm. It's a multifaceted look at Indiana's life and times with music and history, comedy and drama, fact and fable. Writers from all over the state contributed to this bicentennial program.
At 2 p.m., hear remarks from IHS President and CEO John Herbst and other dignitaries, sing Happy Birthday to Indiana and help us celebrate with a balloon drop and 200 delicious treats from Gigi's Cupcakes.
See rare items from the collection in our library. Play our popular Pioneer Games all day long – Graces and Ball-and-Cup and more – and show us your skills. Also available all day, our popular memory mapping activity where you can add your favorite places and events to our state map. Contribute to our future scroll by recording your wishes for Indiana. For the artist in your group, we are creating birthday cards for the state and coloring our collection's most well-known images. And we'll have a great photo opp for you!
